INFINITY Adaptation Movement of Garden Indonesia

By: Mona Liem

Moving forward as in every civilization has its own tipping point. The pandemic experiences show that everything that has happened has positive and negative consequences. What is next?

Adaptation is the option to survive. We extend this to our culture, environment, process of life, heritage, system and priority. This adaptation movement is described by MAG21 artworks as “Zeitgeist”. Ady Setyawan and Ratna Djuwita with their concern of environmental and human behaviour issues in their daily life. Nantlab collective responds to urban challenges in Jakarta. URB-SENSE introduces the participatory production of a virtual mental map of the city on their social distance. Widi Pangestu uses the process in his work: water and oxygen as a symbol of impermanence in life and how humans fear the absence of the internet as O2 or Water. Utami A.Ishii elevates the chili sauce (sambal) that usually as side dishes in Indonesia food became the scientific medium experiment under the microscope and will be interactive artwork among spectators on the exhibition onsite. Despora with Collective Concession reflecting on how humans in this era interpret a traditional game into an interactive installation.

MAG21 festival theme “Infinity” responds to the Ars Electronica 21 “A new digital deal” by presenting Garden Indonesia to showcase and ferment at the art science and technology event what is happening in community and society movements in Indonesia. MAG21 provides both online and physical space where people learn, interact, experiment and create a work of art, products and services or innovation that is part of this adaptation movement. In the meantime also to synergise, adapt and apply their mastership in creating the next new thing for society.
